The new record marks a shift from their previous high-concept, AI-focused album, The Fifth Row. This time, the band is in an introspective mood, exploring childhood nostalgia as well as the anxieties and possibilities of growing up.

Throughout the first half of 2024, the band dropped three digital singles from the album: "Best Is Yet To Come," "Towns to Grow Up In," and an edited version of "Bizarre." In a nod to the nostalgic theme, Coming of Age was initially released only in physical form (CD) on July 6, 2024, available exclusively at live shows, through the band's website, and on Bandcamp.

Keyboardist Mark Focarile explains the album's intention: "Our hope is that these songs strike a personal chord with listeners, bringing their own life experiences to the surface. We want this music to take them back to moments that mattered and in the end shaped who they've become."

In addition to Focarile, the band's lineup features Dave Alley on vocals, John Tuohy on guitars, Jaco Lindito on bass, and Doug Alley on drums. Since their formation in 2005, Mile Marker Zero has been part of the modern prog movement, sharing stages with contemporaries like Porcupine Tree, Riverside, and Periphery.
